Beyond the Granny Part 8

Hi folks 🙂

Did you like the clusters last time?  Hope so 🙂

Beyond the Granny Part 8 by Shelley Husband

We’re doing a very similar technique this time around that gives a different look.

How you’ll go beyond the granny this month

1. You’ll read a pattern

2. You’ll learn how to create stitches clustered together

We will be making stitches very similar to clusters, but this time the bottom bit are all in different places.  It’s called stitching together.  The instructions look like this :

3 trtog

This means you start 3 tr stitches in 3 consecutive stitches or spaces, but don’t do the last step until you have begun 3 stitches and have 4 loops on your hook.

So to do 3 tr tog you would :

yo, insert hook into st or sp, yo, pull a loop to the front (3 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook)

yo, insert hook into next st or sp, yo, pull a loop to the front (4 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook)

yo, insert hook into next st or sp, yo, pull a loop to the front (5 loops on hook), yo, pull through 2 loops (4 loops on hook)

Yo and pull through all 4 loops.

It seems long and complicated, but it’s not really.  Take it slow to start with, step by step and you’ll soon get the hang of it.

You are not limited to 3 stitches together – it can be 2 or many more. Also, the stitches can be anything.  If you’ve done any amigurumi, you’ll know this technique as dc dec (sc dec US folks)

So on to the patterns

Homework

1. Hook up at least 3 All Together blocks.  Play with hook size, being prepared to add/leave off rounds as you go to get your desired size.

2. Play with colour. See what changing colour on different rows can do for the look of the block

3.  Join to your previous blocks if you’ve started joining.

I've been doing more of earlier blocks to add more to my blanket

Next time we’ll be making a simple 3D flower.  Not long to go now.

xx Shelley
