Notes

Make this up to 30 cm (12″) and then add your normal dc (sc) border.

Block  UK Version

SKILL LEVEL:
Intermediate

FINISHED SIZE:
30 cm (12”) square

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight acrylic yarn
Crochet hook size H / 5.0 mm
Tapestry needle

STITCH GUIDE:
Dc = double crochet
Tr = treble crochet
Htr = half treble crochet
Dtr = Double treble crochet (2 yo before starting the stitch)
TRtr = Triple treble crochet (3 yo before starting the stitch)
V-st = tr, ch 1, tr in same stitch
TRTrCL (triple treble cluster) = 1 TRtr in each of next 3 st leaving last loop of each st on hook (4 loops on hook), yo and through all 4 loops.

COMMENCE PATTERN:

Rnd 1: Ch 4 (first 3 ch count as tr), 1 tr in 4th ch from hk, 14 tr in same st, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. (15 tr)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, 1 tr in same st, 2 tr in each tr around; join with a sl st to beg ch-3. Fasten off.  (30 tr)

Rnd 3: Attach new colour to any tr with sl st, ch 5, [in next tr work 1 TRtr leaving 1 loop on hook] twice, yo and pull through all 3 loops, ch 6, *in next tr work TRTrCl, ch 6, repeat from * 8 more times, attach with sl st to 5th ch of beg ch 5. Fasten off. (10 TRTrCl)

Rnd. 4: Attach new colour with sl st to any ch-6 space, ch 2 (count as 1 htr), work 5 htr in same space, *in next ch-6 space work 6 htr, repeat from * around, sl st to beg htr. (60 htr)

Rnd 5: Ch 3, tr in next 3 sts, 2 tr in next st, *tr in next 4 sts, 2 tr in next st; rep from * around; join with sl st in top of beg ch. (72 sts)

Rnd 6: Ch 1, dc in same st, dc in next 3 sts, htr in next 3 sts, tr in next 2 sts, 3 dtr in next st, tr in next 2 sts, htr in next 3 sts, dc in next 3 sts, *dc in next 4 sts, htr in next 3 sts, tr in next 2 sts, 3 dtr in next st, tr in next 2 sts, htr in next 3 sts, dc in next 3 next sts; rep from * twice more join with sl st in first dc. (19 st on each side)

Rnd 7: Ch 1, dc in same st, dc in next 3 sts, htr in next 3 sts, tr in next 2 sts, dtr in next st, 5 dtr in next st, dtr in next st, tr in next 2 sts, htr in next 3 sts, dc in next 3 sts, *dc in next 4 sts, htr in next 3 sts, tr in next 2 sts, dtr in next st, 5 dtr in next st, dtr in next st, tr in next 2 sts, htr in next 3 sts, dc in next 3 sts; rep from *twice more; join with sl st in first dc. Fasten off. (23 st on each side)

Rnd. 8: Attach new colour with sl st to any 3rd dtr in 5-dtr corner group, ch 1, 3 dc in same st, work 1 dc in each st around square, working 3 dc in middle corner st, join with sl st to beg dc. (25 dc on each side)

Rnd. 9: Sl st into next st (corner st), ch 4, in same st work [1 tr, ch 1, V-st, ch 1], *sk next st, tr in next dc, ch 1, rep from * to corner st, in corner st work [V-st, ch 1, V-st, ch 1], cont pat around square, join with sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-4.

Rnd. 10: Sl st into ch-1 space, ch 4, in next ch-1 sp (corner) work [V-st, ch 1, V-st, ch-1], *tr into next ch-1 sp, ch 1, rep from * to corner, cont pat around square, join with sl st to 3rtrh of beg ch-4. Fasten off.

Rnd. 11: Attach new colour with sl st to any corner st, ch 3, in same st work [1 tr, ch 2, 2 tr], 1 tr in each tr to next corner st, in corner st work [2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr], cont pat around square, join with sl st to beg ch-3.

Rnd. 12: Ch 3, 1 tr in each tr, in corner work  [2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr], continue pattern around square, join with sl st to beg ch 3. Fasten off, weave in ends, block.
